Job Description

Role Overview

The Technical Superintendent – LNG is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant technical management of assigned LNG vessels (typically 1–3 vessels). The role ensures optimal vessel technical performance, regulatory compliance, planned maintenance execution, dry-docking coordination, and support to shipboard teams.

This position is ideal for experienced LNG marine engineers looking to transition ashore, including candidates fresh from sea with strong operational LNG expertise.

The Technical Superintendent will work closely with vessel crews, classification societies, shipyards, equipment makers, and internal stakeholders to maintain the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

Vessel Technical Management

  • Oversee the technical operation of assigned LNG vessels
  • Ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company standards
  • Monitor machinery performance, reliability, and operational efficiency
  • Review technical reports and address recurring defects or operational issues

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Supervise implementation of planned maintenance systems
  • Coordinate repair works, spare parts procurement, and technical support
  • Review and approve repair specifications and service requirements
  • Support troubleshooting of critical machinery and propulsion systems

Dry Docking & Projects

  • Plan and manage dry-docking activities
  • Prepare docking specifications, budgets, and schedules
  • Coordinate with shipyards, class surveyors, and contractors
  • Monitor project execution and ensure timely completion

Safety, Compliance & Audits

  • Ensure compliance with:
    • IMO regulations
    • Flag state requirements
    • Classification society rules
    • Company SMS procedures
  • Support internal and external audits, inspections, and vetting preparation
  • Ensure prompt rectification of technical deficiencies

Budget & Cost Control

  • Prepare and manage vessel technical budgets
  • Monitor maintenance and repair expenditures
  • Optimize technical costs without compromising safety or reliability

Crew Support

  • Provide technical guidance to onboard engineering teams
  • Review engine room performance and maintenance practices
  • Support competency development and best-practice implementation

 

Must-Have Requirements

Sea-going Experience

  • Extensive sea-going experience on LNG carriers

Rank

  • Chief Engineer (preferred)
    OR
  • Equivalent senior engineering rank with strong LNG technical exposure

Engine Experience

Hands-on operational experience with dual-fuel LNG propulsion systems, specifically one or more of:

  • MEGI
  • MEGA
  • XDF

Shore Experience

  • No prior shore-based superintendent experience required
  • Strong candidates transitioning fresh from sea are welcome to apply

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency
  • Strong understanding of LNG cargo and propulsion systems
  • Experience with planned maintenance systems
  • Dry-docking / major repair involvement
  • Knowledge of LNG safety and environmental regulations
  • Familiarity with vessel performance optimization
