Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a Main Engine Superintendent (2-Stroke Specialist) to oversee the technical performance, maintenance, and reliability of vessels equipped with large 2-stroke main engines. The role focuses on ensuring optimal engine efficiency, compliance, and operational excellence across the fleet.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure optimal performance of main engines across assigned vessels
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and support to onboard engineers and vessel management teams
  • Oversee and verify planned maintenance and overhaul activities for main engines
  • Analyze engine performance data (fuel consumption, emissions, wear trends) and recommend improvements
  • Attend vessels when required for major repairs, breakdowns, or inspections
  • Support and supervise dry-docking activities, including engine overhauls and upgrades
  • Liaise with equipment manufacturers and service engineers on technical matters, upgrades, and warranty claims
  • Ensure compliance with OEM requirements, class regulations, and company standards
  • Assist in spare parts planning and inventory control related to main engine systems
  • Provide guidance and training to Chief Engineers and engine room crew

 

Requirements

  • Chief Engineer or Second Engineer (Class 1/2/3 COC preferred)
  • Strong experience with 2-stroke marine engines
  • Prior experience as Technical Superintendent or Engine Specialist is an advantage
  • Solid understanding of engine diagnostics, fuel systems, and performance optimization
  • Experience handling dry-docking and major engine overhauls
  • Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with vessels and technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel and attend vessels as required

 

Preferred Experience

  • Tanker / bulk carrier / container vessel background
  • Experience working with engine makers or authorized service providers
  • Familiarity with engine performance monitoring systems and digital diagnostics
