Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Manage the technical operation of assigned vessels, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance.
- Ensure compliance with international regulations, Flag State, Classification Society requirements, company procedures, and industry standards.
- Oversee shipbuilding, repairs, dry-docking, and technical projects to ensure timely completion within budget.
- Ensure the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) is properly implemented and maintained across the fleet.
- Monitor vessel maintenance, machinery performance, statutory surveys, class certification, and technical inspections.
- Coordinate with Technical Superintendents to resolve technical issues and provide engineering support.
- Review vessel condition reports and recommend maintenance or repair actions where required.
- Manage technical and capital expenditure budgets, monitor costs, and report any significant variances.
- Monitor fleet performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and operating costs.
- Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained according to manufacturers’ recommendations.
- Coordinate responses and corrective actions arising from SIRE, PSC, audits, inspections, and other compliance findings.
- Provide regular technical updates and reports to management on fleet status and ongoing projects.
- Review repair, survey, and dry-docking reports, including cost evaluations and work completion.
- Monitor fuel and lubricating oil consumption to support operational efficiency.
- Investigate technical incidents and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
- Prepare annual maintenance budgets and monitor expenditure.
- Issue technical advisories and maintenance updates to vessels when required.
- Support internal departments on technical and operational matters.
- Coordinate the procurement and timely delivery of vessel spare parts.
Requirements
- Class 1 Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (Motor), Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering qualification, or equivalent technical background.
- At least 7 years of shore-based technical management experience within the maritime industry.
- Experience managing vessel fleets, maintenance programmes, or shipyard projects.
- Experience with dual-fuel vessels is advantageous.
- Good knowledge of vessel operations, marine engineering, shipbuilding, and technical management.
- Familiar with ISM Code, ISPS Code, Flag State regulations, Classification Society requirements, and international maritime standards.
- Knowledge of SIRE and VIQ inspection processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer-based maintenance systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and organisational skills.\
- Able to work effectively in a multicultural and fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel when required.
