Job Description
Responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical management of a fleet of vessels. Ensures compliance with international maritime regulations, classification society requirements, flag state regulations, and industry best practices. Oversees planned maintenance, vessel repairs, dry-docking, technical inspections, budgeting, spare parts management, and fleet performance while maintaining high safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the technical operations of assigned vessels to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance.
- Ensure compliance with international conventions, classification society requirements, flag state regulations, and maritime safety standards.
- Oversee planned maintenance systems (PMS) and ensure maintenance schedules are properly implemented.
- Supervise shipbuilding projects, vessel repairs, dry-docking, surveys, and technical inspections.
- Monitor vessel condition, machinery performance, and structural integrity through regular inspections.
- Manage technical budgets, maintenance costs, and capital expenditures while controlling operational expenses.
- Review technical reports from vessel management teams and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
- Monitor fuel and lubricating oil consumption and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Investigate vessel accidents and incidents, recommend corrective actions, and ensure effective close-out.
- Coordinate technical support with operations and commercial teams.
- Manage procurement and timely delivery of spare parts required for vessel maintenance.
- Issue technical guidance and bulletins to vessels when necessary.
- Stay updated on changes to maritime regulations and implement new technical and compliance requirements.
- Ensure all technical activities meet established KPIs and operational objectives.
Requirements
- Class 1 Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (STCW) or a degree in Naval Architecture.
- Minimum 7 years of shore-based technical management experience.
- Mechanical Engineering background or equivalent technical expertise gained through experience.
- Experience managing vessel fleets and shore-based workshops.
- Hands-on experience with dual-fuel vessels.
- Strong knowledge of shipbuilding, vessel operations, and technical management.
- Thorough understanding of ISM Code, ISPS Code, Flag State regulations, and Classification Society requirements.
- Strong knowledge of SIRE and VIQ inspection processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer applications.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a multicultural environment.
- Fluent in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
