Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Steel Manager to lead and oversee steel fabrication, assembly, and block construction activities within a shipyard environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring steel production is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules, quality standards, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all steel fabrication, sub-assembly, block assembly, and erection activities to support vessel construction projects.
- Develop and monitor steel production schedules to ensure project milestones are achieved on time.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Planning, Procurement, and Project Management teams to ensure efficient project execution.
- Ensure all steel fabrication and assembly activities comply with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable industry requirements.
- Optimise the utilisation of manpower, materials, equipment, and workshop resources to maximise productivity and minimise rework and material wastage.
- Monitor production progress, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules.
- Supervise and mentor Steel Supervisors, foremen, and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely and to the required quality standards.
- Work closely with the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures.
- Conduct regular production meetings and prepare progress reports for management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in steel production, fabrication, or construction management within a shipyard or heavy engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of shipbuilding steel fabrication, block construction, welding, and production processes.
- Experience managing production teams, supervisors, and subcontractors in a shipyard environment.
- Good understanding of production planning, quality management, and workplace safety practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with AutoCAD or similar engineering software is an advantage.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Willingness and ability to work full-time in Batam, Indonesia.
