Job Description
A global ship management organisation is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to oversee a portfolio of tanker vessels. This position carries overall responsibility for the technical management, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and cost performance of the assigned fleet.
The successful candidate will bring strong tanker vessel expertise, demonstrate effective stakeholder management skills, and possess proven leadership capability within high-performance maritime environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the technical management and operational performance of an assigned fleet of tanker vessels (MR, Aframax, VLCC or Chemical).
- Ensure vessels operate safely and efficiently while complying with Class, Flag State, ISM Code and international maritime regulations.
- Provide leadership and direction to Technical Superintendents and shore-based technical support teams.
- Plan and manage dry docking schedules, major repairs, retrofits and capital expenditure projects.
- Monitor and control operating budgets (OPEX) while maintaining high standards of safety, reliability and operational performance.
- Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Liaise closely with shipowners, charterers, classification societies, flag administrations and key external stakeholders.
- Manage technical risks, monitor Port State Control performance and ensure vessels remain audit-ready.
- Support fleet performance monitoring through KPI tracking, reporting and operational improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination between vessel crews and shore-based management teams.
Requirements
- Class 1 (Motor) Certificate of Competency is mandatory.
- Former Chief Engineer with solid sailing experience on tanker vessels.
- Previous shore-based experience in Technical Superintendent or Fleet Management roles.
- Strong exposure to tanker operations including product, chemical, crude or gas vessels.
- Proven experience managing dry dock projects, vessel budgets and fleet performance optimisation.
- Familiar with Class surveys, Port State Control inspections and marine incident management.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance cost control and operational reliability.
- Demonstrated leadership capability managing multicultural technical teams.
- Fluent in Mandarin and English (spoken and written) to engage effectively with shipowners and chartering stakeholders.
- Based in Singapore or eligible to work in Singapore.
