Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior shipbrokers in the chartering and broking process from initial enquiry through to fixture.
- Develop and maintain relationships with shipowners, charterers, traders, and other industry stakeholders.
- Monitor and analyse freight markets, vessel positions, cargo movements, and market trends.
- Source and circulate vessel and cargo opportunities to relevant clients.
- Assist with negotiating freight rates, charter party terms, and commercial conditions under the guidance of senior brokers.
- Coordinate with clients and counterparties to facilitate smooth execution of fixtures.
- Maintain accurate records of market information, fixtures, cargoes, vessels, and client activity.
- Prepare market reports, rate assessments, and other commercial updates.
- Conduct research on shipping routes, vessel availability, port conditions, and commodity flows.
- Support senior brokers in developing new business and identifying potential clients.
- Build a strong network within the shipping and maritime industry.
- Assist with post-fixture coordination and liaise with operations and relevant internal teams where required.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 0–3 years of experience in shipbroking, chartering, shipping operations, commercial shipping, or a related maritime role.
- Fresh graduates with strong interest in the shipping industry may be considered.
- Good understanding of the shipping industry and commercial shipping concepts.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Commercially minded with a proactive and entrepreneurial approach.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and target-driven environment.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Strong interest in developing a long-term career in shipbroking and chartering.
