Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end chartering of dry bulk and containerised cargo across global trade routes.
- Source, negotiate, and secure competitive freight rates with shipowners, operators, container carriers, and freight forwarders.
- Handle commodities including iron ore, steel products, aluminium, raw materials, and finished metals.
- Evaluate voyage economics, freight markets, and vessel availability to support commercial decisions.
- Negotiate charter parties, freight contracts, service agreements, and shipping terms.
- Coordinate closely with Commercial, Trading, Logistics, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to ensure timely cargo execution.
- Monitor vessel schedules, container allocations, port operations, and shipment performance.
- Manage relationships with shipowners, brokers, container shipping lines, terminals, and logistics providers.
- Identify cost optimisation opportunities while maintaining operational efficiency and service reliability.
- Resolve operational and contractual issues, including delays, demurrage, detention, and claims.
- Monitor market trends, freight indices, and industry developments to support procurement and freight strategies.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, trade regulations, and company policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in chartering, commercial shipping, or freight procurement.
- Proven experience handling both dry bulk and containerised cargo.
- Strong knowledge of charter parties (Gencon, Asbatankvoy, NYPE or similar), freight negotiations, Incoterms, and international shipping practices.
- Experience handling iron ore, steel products, aluminium, metals, minerals, or industrial commodities is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of dry bulk freight markets, container shipping, vessel operations, and global trade flows.
- Excellent commercial negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and freight or ERP systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced international trading environment.
