Job Description

Role Overview

The Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales and business development activities within the marine sector, developing relationships with existing customers while identifying and securing new business opportunities.

The role involves promoting marine engines, propulsion systems, spare parts, retrofit solutions and technical services to shipowners, ship managers, shipyards, vessel operators and other maritime customers.

The successful candidate will manage the complete sales cycle from lead generation and customer engagement through quotation, technical-commercial negotiation and order closure.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve revenue and order intake targets.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the marine and shipping industry.
  • Generate new sales leads through market research, networking, referrals and customer visits.
  • Develop existing accounts and identify opportunities for additional business.
  • Maintain a healthy pipeline of potential projects and sales opportunities.
  • Conduct regular customer visits, presentations and commercial discussions.

Marine Equipment & Technical Sales

  • Promote and sell marine engines, engine components, propulsion equipment, spare parts, retrofit solutions and technical services.
  • Understand customers’ vessel requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
  • Work closely with customers to understand operational challenges, maintenance requirements and upcoming projects.
  • Provide technical-commercial advice regarding products and services.
  • Support customers throughout the sales and project lifecycle.

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, ship managers, shipyards, vessel operators and other maritime stakeholders.
  • Act as the key commercial point of contact for assigned customers.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customers’ fleets, business activities and purchasing requirements.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups on enquiries, quotations and ongoing projects.
  • Maintain strong customer satisfaction and develop long-term commercial partnerships.

Quotations & Commercial Negotiations

  • Prepare and coordinate technical and commercial quotations.
  • Negotiate pricing, contractual terms, delivery schedules and commercial conditions with customers.
  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure proposed solutions meet customer requirements.
  • Manage the sales process from initial enquiry through quotation, negotiation and order confirmation.
  • Follow up on outstanding quotations and convert opportunities into confirmed orders.

After-Sales & Spare Parts Sales

  • Develop sales opportunities for OEM spare parts, maintenance, repairs and technical services.
  • Identify opportunities arising from vessel maintenance schedules, dry-dockings and engine overhauls.
  • Promote long-term service agreements and other after-sales solutions.
  • Work closely with service engineers and technical teams to support customer requirements.
  • Develop repeat business through strong after-sales customer relationships.

Market Intelligence

  • Monitor developments within the marine and shipping market.
  • Identify upcoming vessel projects, newbuildings, retrofits and fleet maintenance opportunities.
  • Monitor competitor activities, pricing and market trends.
  • Provide management with market intelligence and sales forecasts.
  • Identify emerging opportunities relating to alternative fuels, vessel efficiency and decarbonisation technologies.
