Job Description

Reporting to the Fleet Manager, Vetting, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the fleet’s vetting performance, regulatory compliance, safety culture, and operational excellence across assigned vessels.

Key responsibilities include conducting onboard vetting preparation visits and crew training programmes in accordance with established schedules. The incumbent will assess vessel readiness for inspections, identify areas requiring improvement, and verify the effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

The role involves ensuring that shipboard personnel consistently follow company procedures, operational routines, and management system requirements. This includes monitoring compliance with the Company’s Integrated Management System (IMS), as well as applicable local, national, and international regulations, statutory requirements, industry standards, and oil major expectations.

The Vetting Superintendent will actively support and participate in safety initiatives and campaigns, both through contributing to their development and overseeing onboard implementation. A strong focus will be placed on promoting a positive safety culture, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement throughout the fleet.

The successful candidate will review vessel compliance with industry inspection programmes, including SIRE and CDI requirements, identify recurring trends or deficiencies, and provide recommendations to improve overall vetting performance. This includes analysing inspection reports, validating the closure of observations, and ensuring lessons learned are effectively communicated and implemented onboard.

Responsibilities also include auditing and verifying the effectiveness of onboard Planned Maintenance System (PMS) processes, including the proper use of permits to work, risk assessments, toolbox meetings, and daily work planning procedures.

The role requires close monitoring of safety performance indicators, environmental compliance matters, weak safety signals, and potential operational risks. The incumbent will recommend and follow up on corrective actions, repairs, and maintenance activities aimed at preventing recurrence and improving fleet performance.

A key aspect of the position is delivering onboard coaching and training to strengthen crew competency, close knowledge gaps, and ensure familiarity with industry inspection standards, particularly under the SIRE 2.0 framework. The Vetting Superintendent will also support vessels in preparing inspection documentation, including the preparation and maintenance of the PIQ, while ensuring accurate and timely submissions.

The individual will serve as a key link between shipboard personnel and shore management, facilitating communication, providing operational guidance, and supporting the implementation of new regulatory, statutory, class, flag state, and industry requirements.

Additional responsibilities include evaluating and verifying Performance Influencing Factors (PIFs), monitoring industry developments, identifying fleet-wide trends, and providing proactive recommendations to senior management to enhance safety, compliance, and vetting outcomes.

Following inspections, the incumbent will prepare detailed reports outlining observations raised, supporting evidence, root causes, and recommendations for improvement, including photographic documentation where available.
