Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the technical operations of a fleet of Car Carrier vessels.
  • Directly supervise and mentor a team of Technical Superintendents, ensuring effective vessel management and workload distribution.
  • Establish technical strategies and maintenance standards across the fleet.
  • Monitor vessel performance, reliability, and operational efficiency, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee fleet-wide budgeting, cost control, and expenditure approvals.
  • Review and approve repair specifications, dry-docking plans, and major maintenance projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Flag State, Class, IMO, ISM, ISPS, MLC, and environmental regulations.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for technical, operational, and emergency situations.
  • Collaborate closely with Marine, Crewing, Procurement, HSSEQ, and Commercial departments to achieve fleet objectives.
  • Lead technical investigations relating to incidents, machinery failures, and off-hire events.
  • Manage relationships with shipowners, charterers, shipyards, classification societies, and key vendors.
  • Drive fleet decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Conduct regular vessel visits, superintendent reviews, and management inspections.

Requirements

  • Chief Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency preferred.
  • Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related maritime discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of shore-based technical management experience, including management of Car Carrier (PCTC/PCC) vessels.
  • Previous experience managing Technical Superintendents or leading a fleet management team.
  • Strong understanding of dry-docking, vessel budgeting, procurement, and technical operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations and classification requirements.
  • Proven experience managing multiple vessels and driving fleet performance improvements.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making capabilities.
