Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Conduct onboard vetting readiness assessments and internal audits in accordance with the planned schedule to ensure vessels are fully prepared for SIRE, CDI, and other external inspections.
  • Deliver onboard training and coaching to Masters, officers, and crew to strengthen understanding of vetting requirements, safety standards, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Identify operational gaps and areas for improvement during vessel visits, ensuring effective implementation and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Verify that shipboard personnel consistently follow company procedures, established routines, reporting requirements, and operational timelines.
  • Ensure vessels are operated safely and in full compliance with the Company’s Integrated Management System (IMS), as well as all applicable Flag State, Class, Port State, and international regulations.
  • Support the planning, development, and implementation of fleet-wide safety initiatives, awareness campaigns, and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Monitor vessel compliance with SIRE, CDI, and Oil Major requirements, identifying recurring trends, deficiencies, and opportunities for continuous improvement across the fleet.
  • Audit the implementation of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), verifying compliance with company procedures including Permit to Work systems, risk assessments, toolbox meetings, maintenance planning, and work execution.
  • Monitor environmental compliance and identify potential operational risks, recommending preventive maintenance, corrective actions, and best practices to minimise future occurrences.
  • Review SIRE, CDI, and internal inspection reports to ensure all observations have been effectively addressed, verified, and closed out in a timely manner.
  • Provide regular feedback, recommendations, and technical guidance to Fleet Management to enhance vessel performance, inspection readiness, and overall vetting results.
  • Act as the primary liaison between vessel personnel and shore-based management on all vetting, audit, compliance, and inspection-related matters.
  • Verify that vessels remain updated with evolving regulatory requirements including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, Flag State, Classification Society, Oil Major, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Prepare detailed inspection and audit reports with comprehensive findings, supporting evidence, recommendations, and photographic documentation where appropriate.
  • Ensure vessel crews are fully familiar with the SIRE 2.0 inspection regime, Performance Influencing Factors (PIF), and expectations during external inspections.
  • Evaluate vessel Performance Influencing Factors (PIF) and provide recommendations to improve operational effectiveness and inspection outcomes.
  • Train vessel personnel on accurate completion and submission of the Particulars Questionnaire (PIQ) and other inspection-related documentation.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders and support the continuous improvement of the Company’s vetting, compliance, and marine assurance standards.

Requirements

  • Previous sailing experience as a Master or Chief Engineer.
  • Minimum 24 months of experience as a Master, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, or Second Engineer onboard tanker vessels. Experience on gas carriers is highly preferred. Candidates with relevant shore-based superintendent experience on gas vessels may also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations, vessel management systems, and industry standards including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM Code, SIRE, CDI, and Oil Major requirements.
  • Good understanding of vessel inspection processes, audit methodologies, safety management systems, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Comfortable working in a technology-driven environment with strong digital literacy and the ability to support process improvements and data-driven initiatives.
  • Willingness to travel extensively at short notice and support a 24/7 operational environment when required.
  • Ability to travel frequently within Europe and the western Atlantic region with minimal notice.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple vessel assignments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with shipboard personnel, shore management, and external stakeholders.
