Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the overall technical operations of assigned bulk carrier vessels
- Plan and oversee maintenance, repairs, and dry-docking activities
- Monitor vessel performance, condition, and operational efficiency
- Prepare and control technical budgets, including cost tracking and optimisation
- Ensure compliance with class, flag state, and international regulations (ISM, MARPOL, SOLAS)
- Conduct vessel inspections and provide technical guidance to onboard teams
- Support and investigate technical incidents, implementing corrective actions
- Liaise with shipyards, contractors, suppliers, and classification societies
- Oversee procurement of spare parts, services, and technical requirements
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting within company systems
- Work closely with Marine, Crewing, and HSSEQ teams to ensure smooth vessel operations
Requirements
- Chief Engineer (Class 1) or Degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 2–5 years of shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent (bulk carriers preferred)
- Prior sailing experience as Chief Engineer on bulk carriers
- Strong knowledge of vessel machinery, maintenance planning, and dry-docking
- Familiarity with class requirements and international maritime regulations
- Experience managing budgets and cost control
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Good communication and stakeholder management abilities
