Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Vessel Maintenance & Technical Management: Oversee the day-to-day technical operations, preventative maintenance, and repair activities of assigned LPG carriers. Ensure maximum vessel uptime and mechanical reliability.

  • Drydocking & Major Repairs: Plan, budget, and execute scheduled drydocking projects and major afloat repairs. Manage shipyard negotiations, technical specifications, and project execution safely, on time, and within budget.

  • Regulatory & Vetting Compliance: Ensure vessels strictly adhere to international marine regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW) and specific gas codes (IGC/GC). Maintain the highest standards of readiness for SIRE 2.0, CDI, flag state, and port state control inspections.

  • Budgeting & Financial Control: Formulate, monitor, and manage annual technical operational budgets (OPEX) for assigned vessels. Review and approve spare parts requisitions, stores, and technical service requests to optimize cost efficiencies.

  • Safety & Environmental Stewardship: Champion a proactive safety-first culture onboard. Collaborate closely with the HSEQ department to investigate technical incidents, implement root-cause analysis, and close out corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Crew Support & Mentorship: Provide ongoing technical guidance, remote troubleshooting support, and performance monitoring to Chief Engineers and shipboard crew. Participate in pre-joining briefings for senior officers.

Job Requirements

  • Marine Qualifications: Holder of a valid Class 1 Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (CoC) for Gas / Motor vessels.

  • Sailing Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience sailing as Chief Engineer

  • Shore-Based Experience: Prior experience as a shore-based Technical Superintendent managing gas carriers (LPG/VLGC) within a reputable ship management firm is highly advantageous.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of gas plant operations (reliquefaction plants, cargo pumps, gas compression), dual-fuel engines, and modern shipboard automation systems.

  • Vetting Knowledge: Strong familiarity with the SIRE 2.0 inspection framework, CDI protocols, and oil major management review systems (TMSA).

  • Soft Skills: Excellent project management, organizational, and budget control skills. Strong intercultural communication skills with the ability to lead and collaborate effectively across all levels.

  • Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally at short notice for vessel visits, drydocking operations, and emergency response support.
