Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated Company Security Officer and a member of the Emergency Response Team.
- Conduct onboard inspections to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and security management systems.
- Review and enhance the Integrated Management System (IMS) and Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) processes for continuous improvement.
- Prepare and distribute safety bulletins, memoranda, and operational circulars.
- Investigate and report marine casualties, operational incidents, and workplace accidents.
- Monitor and coordinate schedules for ISM, ISPS, and MLC internal audits.
- Conduct security inspections, training, and response activities to ensure compliance with charterer and regulatory security requirements.
- Share security updates and coordinate testing of the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS).
- Promote safety and security awareness by issuing policies, procedures, and guidance to shipboard personnel.
- Plan and implement safety training programs, drills, and emergency exercises across the fleet.
- Deliver training on fleet management and HSSEQ-related systems to both shipboard and shore-based personnel.
- Review and approve documentation related to:
- Incident, near-miss, and safety reports
- Port State Control (PSC) and Flag State Control (FSC) records
- Safety drills and monthly safety committee meetings
- Master’s reviews
- Shipboard training records
- Incident investigation reports
- Hot work permits
- ISM, ISPS, and MLC internal audits
- Risk assessments and Management of Change (where applicable)
- Oversee cadet development and training programs.
- Audit and verify shipboard training activities, emergency drills, and competency exercises.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Certificate of Competency (Deck) Class 1 or Class 2, or a Diploma in a marine-related discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally and sail onboard vessels when required.
