Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Naval Architect to join the engineering team at a luxury yacht building yard. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, development, and construction of yachts, working closely with design, production, and project teams to ensure each vessel meets the highest standards of performance, craftsmanship, and functionality.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review naval architectural designs, calculations, and technical drawings for new yacht construction projects.
- Perform stability calculations, weight estimates, hydrostatic calculations, and performance assessments.
- Prepare and review General Arrangement (GA) drawings, hull forms, layouts, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with the Design, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with project requirements.
- Support vessel construction by providing technical guidance and resolving engineering issues during the build process.
- Coordinate with suppliers and consultants on technical specifications and engineering requirements.
- Assist in material selection and design optimisation to improve vessel performance, safety, and build efficiency.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute innovative solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare engineering reports, calculations, and project documentation.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule while maintaining quality and engineering standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or an equivalent qualification.
- Relevant experience of at least 3 years in yacht building, shipbuilding, or marine vessel design is preferred.
- Strong understanding of vessel design principles, stability, hydrostatics, structural fundamentals, and weight control.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with naval architecture and 3D design software such as Maxsurf, Rhino, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or similar is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, design, and production teams.
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- A passion for yacht design construction is highly desirable.
