Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for marine operations across the dry-bulk fleet.
  • Lead and develop Marine Superintendents and other shore-based marine personnel.
  • Monitor vessel safety, operational performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, class, flag-state and port-state requirements.
  • Oversee navigation, cargo operations, mooring, stability and other marine-related activities.
  • Monitor and follow up on internal audits, external inspections and port-state-control findings.
  • Lead investigations into marine incidents, near misses and operational deficiencies.
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented effectively.
  • Conduct vessel visits, inspections and operational reviews when required.
  • Work closely with technical, crewing, QHSE and commercial teams to improve fleet performance.
  • Liaise with vessel teams, shipowners, charterers, class societies, flag authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Support the recruitment, appraisal, training and development of Masters and senior deck officers.
  • Review marine procedures and promote a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular fleet-performance reports and recommendations to senior management.

Requirements

  • Master Mariner Certificate of Competency, Class 1.
  • Significant sailing experience as Master on dry-bulk vessels.
  • Strong shore-based marine-management experience within a shipowning or ship management organisation.
  • Previous experience in a senior leadership role such as Marine Director, Head of Marine, Fleet Director or Senior Marine Manager.
  • In-depth knowledge of dry-bulk cargo operations, marine regulations and safety-management systems.
  • Strong experience handling audits, inspections, incidents and regulatory matters.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop marine teams across a diverse fleet.
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance safety, operational and business requirements.
  • Willingness to travel and attend vessels when required.
