Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Lawyer to join the Singapore office and provide legal support to Defence and P&I clients across the Asia-Pacific region.

The role involves managing a diverse and demanding caseload, providing timely legal advice, overseeing external counsel in complex litigation and claims, and delivering presentations and workshops to clients and members. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with teams in Singapore and other international offices.

The position requires strong relationship management skills, with responsibility for maintaining effective relationships with members, brokers, clients, and other stakeholders. The candidate will also support colleagues across other claims processes and contribute to the promotion of the organisation’s capabilities in Singapore and Southeast Asia, including occasional regional travel.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong technical legal knowledge, commercial awareness, the ability to work independently, and the interpersonal skills required to contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with experience in an English/Common Law jurisdiction, such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, or another comparable jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 4–5 years of post-qualified experience (PQE) gained within a recognised maritime law firm, International Group P&I Club, trading house, or similar organisation.
  • Proven experience handling Defence and/or P&I matters.
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload and work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong legal, analytical, and commercial skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with internal teams and external legal counsel.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional regional travel.

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge or experience in commodities and trade, P&I, and/or casualty matters.
  • Exposure to casualty response and incident management.
  • Mandarin Chinese or another Asian language proficiency.
