Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including commodity sale and purchase contracts, service agreements, logistics contracts, and shipping documentation.
  • Provide legal support to Trading and Commercial teams on day-to-day transactions, contract negotiations, and legal risk management.
  • Advise on shipping, international trade, charter parties, cargo claims, Incoterms, and related legal matters.
  • Manage disputes, arbitration, litigation, and coordinate with external legal counsel when required.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory and compliance matters, including trade sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), anti-money laundering (AML), and corporate governance.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the commodities trading industry and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver practical, commercially focused legal solutions that support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with at least 2 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Experience in commodities trading, shipping, international trade, commercial law, or a related industry is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial contracts, contract negotiation, and legal risk management.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Commercially minded, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, international business environment.
