Job Description
The HSSEQ Manager is responsible for ensuring the company’s fleet complies with all maritime health, safety, security, quality, and environmental regulations while maintaining operational readiness and an effective Safety Management System (SMS).
Key responsibilities include acting as the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and Company Security Officer (CSO), overseeing compliance with IMO regulations, ISPS Code requirements, vessel cargo worthiness, and maintaining critical spare inventories. The role also involves monitoring SMS effectiveness, conducting internal audits, implementing corrective actions, and managing ship security plans and drills.
The position oversees the company’s integrated HSSQE management system by developing policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include monitoring incidents, analysing trends, conducting risk assessments, implementing mitigation measures, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws and quality standards.
The HSSEQ Manager promotes a strong safety culture through training, vessel visits, emergency preparedness exercises, and communication of best practices across the fleet. The role also requires coordination with shore and vessel teams to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
Candidates should possess a maritime-related degree, Class 1 Master CoC, DPA and CSO certifications, vessel inspection and audit experience, and prior shore-based management experience. Strong knowledge of bulk vessel operations, SOLAS and flag state requirements, leadership skills, PC literacy, and the ability to travel at short notice are essential. Experience handling gas cargo or fuel and understanding bulk cargo loading requirements are advantageous
