About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our marine engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of electrical systems for vessels, ensuring compliance with classification society requirements, industry standards, and customer specifications.
The role will involve working closely with Naval Architects, Marine Engineers, Shipyards, Equipment Suppliers, and Project Managers throughout the design, construction, and commissioning phases of vessel projects.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical System Design
- Develop electrical designs and engineering solutions for newbuild, retrofit, and vessel conversion projects.
- Prepare single-line diagrams, power distribution layouts, cable schedules, load calculations, and electrical schematics.
- Design and specify vessel electrical systems.
- Perform electrical load analysis and fault calculations.
Engineering & Technical Support
- Prepare technical specifications, engineering drawings, and documentation.
- Review vendor drawings and technical submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Support equipment selection and integration of electrical systems onboard vessels.
- Provide technical support during vessel construction, installation, testing, and commissioning.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with shipyards, clients, classification societies, and equipment manufacturers.
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project discussions.
- Monitor project progress and ensure engineering deliverables are completed on schedule.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure designs comply with applicable Classification Society requirements, including DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, BV, and ClassNK.
- Ensure compliance with IMO regulations, SOLAS requirements, IEC standards, and marine industry best practices.
- Support approval submissions and liaise with regulatory authorities when required.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on emerging marine technologies, electrification trends, battery systems, hybrid propulsion, and sustainable vessel solutions.
- Contribute to engineering process improvements and innovation initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–8 years of experience in electrical design engineering within the maritime, offshore, or shipbuilding industry.
Preferred Experience
- Newbuild vessel projects, vessel conversions, or offshore engineering projects.
