Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute tanker chartering strategies for spot and period business across assigned trade routes and regions.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of cargo owners, oil majors, traders, brokers, and shipowners to secure profitable cargo and vessel opportunities.
  • Negotiate and conclude voyage charters, time charters, Contracts of Affreightment (COAs), and other chartering agreements.
  • Monitor global tanker markets, freight rates, vessel supply-demand dynamics, refinery activities, and commodity flows to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Optimize vessel employment and positioning to maximize fleet utilization and earnings.
  • Work closely with vessel operations, post-fixture, demurrage, and marine teams to ensure smooth voyage execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct voyage estimations, profitability analysis, and risk assessments for potential fixtures.
  • Monitor exposure to freight market fluctuations and support hedging strategies where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, vetting requirements, sanctions regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of fixtures, market intelligence, and commercial performance reports.
  • Mentor and guide junior chartering staff while supporting business development initiatives and strategic growth plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of tanker chartering experience, preferably within a shipowner, tanker operator, commodity trader, or shipbroking environment.
  • Strong knowledge of tanker markets including Crude Oil, Clean Petroleum Products (CPP), Dirty Petroleum Products (DPP), Chemicals, or LNG/LPG trades.
  • Proven track record in negotiating and concluding tanker charter parties and commercial agreements.
  • Strong understanding of voyage economics, freight calculations, demurrage, laytime, and tanker operations.
  • Excellent market intelligence, commercial acumen, and analytical capabilities.
  • Established industry network with charterers, traders, brokers, and shipowners.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and highly competitive environment.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and voyage estimation/chartering software.
  • Willingness to travel when required for client meetings, industry events, and business development activities.
