Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain all vessel IT systems, including servers, communication tools, computers, and network infrastructure. Perform regular monitoring and system checks to ensure reliability and optimal performance. Confirm that security patches, antivirus updates, alerts, and backups are executed correctly.
- Provide direct IT assistance to vessel crew, ensuring quick resolution of technical issues to reduce downtime. Act as the key link between shipboard personnel, shore-based IT support, operations departments, and third-party providers.
- Implement and supervise onboard cybersecurity measures such as access control, endpoint protection, and secure system settings. Ensure strict compliance with maritime IT regulations, company data security policies, and international standards. Conduct audits and readiness checks to support internal and external inspections.
- Lead IT-related projects onboard vessels, including upgrades, license renewals, security software rollouts, and improvements to communication systems. Prepare project plans, budgets, and documentation to support smooth execution.
- Manage IT assets across assigned vessels. Conduct quarterly equipment audits, update records in the asset management system, and track license renewals, warranties, and service agreements.
- Support preparation of vessel IT budgets and provide cost analysis for projects and operations. Recommend efficiency improvements and coordinate with vendors for installations, maintenance, and issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate and updated documentation of onboard IT systems and networks. Develop and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting guides, and user manuals for crew reference.
- Deliver IT awareness and basic training to crew members when needed. Ensure smooth knowledge transfer between crew rotations to guarantee continuity of IT operations.
- Oversee and support office IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, storage platforms (e.g., Synology), and cloud services. Ensure systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.
- Act as the final escalation point for advanced IT issues that cannot be resolved at L1 or L2 levels. Handle complex troubleshooting, incident recovery, and architecture-level problem solving.
- Ensure reliable backup procedures for office and vessel systems, including Synology devices. Validate backup integrity and test restoration processes to confirm data recoverability.
- Contribute to IT disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity planning (BCP), supporting the company’s ability to recover from operational disruptions or cyber incidents effectively.
Requirements:
- Seagoing experience as a shipboard officer, or a university degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Crewing Superintendent.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- In-depth knowledge of international and national maritime regulations and standards.
