Job Description

  • Plan, manage, and oversee all activities related to the maintenance, repairs, surveys, and certification requirements of assigned vessels, including dry-docking, conversions, or modifications, as well as preparing docking specifications, compiling costs, and final reporting.
  • Update, implement, and monitor the Fleet Management system, including Planned Maintenance Programs (PMS-Eng).
  • Conduct ship inspections, ensuring at least one port or sailing visit is made, and provide associated reports.
  • Develop a dynamic work plan and action list in collaboration with the Chief Engineer.
  • Ensure the vessel’s maintenance adheres to the Company’s policies, and regularly receive progress reports.
  • Assist in the selection of Chief Engineers, Engineer Officers, and ratings for vessels under your care.
  • Evaluate the performance of Chief Engineers, Engineer Officers, and ratings.
  • Handle the Company and fleet’s oil majors’ vetting requirements.
  • Monitor fuel oil and lube oil test results, taking corrective action promptly when needed.
  • Ensure the timely supply and maintain adequate stocks of engine room stores, spares, and maintenance items on board at all times.
  • Ensure the calibration of MMC, gas detection equipment, and alcohol meters is up to date.
  • Oversee the annual servicing of portable and fixed LSA & FFA equipment such as fire extinguishers, liferafts, SCBA sets, EEBD sets, lifeboat and rescue boat davit tests, EPIRB and VDR annual performance tests, lifeboat air bottles, and BA compressor air quality tests.
  • Support the maintenance of the Company’s TMSA.
  • Stay informed on and implement new regulations, legislation, and rules relevant to the Company and fleet.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and attending new builds, deliveries, and ship sales as needed.
  • Participate in maritime organizations, committees, and working groups as required.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the budget and cost control for the fleet, including docking and modifications.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements:

  • Hold a Certificate of Competency (Engine) Class 1 or Class 2 (Port Limit), or alternatively Class 2 or 3 (Foreign Going) may also be considered.
  • Degree or Diploma in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Preferably 2 years of experience as Chief Engineer on petroleum and chemical tankers under 20,000 mt deadweight, with 4-stroke main diesel engines.
  • Preferably 1 year of shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel overseas to visit or sail with company vessels or other assigned vessels as needed.
