Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the technical management, maintenance and performance of assigned dual-fuel vessels.
- Lead, guide and support Technical Superintendents and vessel engineering teams.
- Monitor the operation and condition of main engines, auxiliary machinery, fuel-gas supply systems and other critical equipment.
- Ensure vessels comply with class requirements, flag-state regulations and applicable maritime legislation.
- Develop and monitor planned maintenance programmes to improve vessel reliability and minimise downtime.
- Review technical defects, machinery failures and operational issues, ensuring timely corrective action.
- Plan and supervise dry-dockings, major repairs, retrofits and technical upgrade projects.
- Prepare and control vessel maintenance, repair and dry-docking budgets.
- Review technical expenditure and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
- Liaise with shipyards, classification societies, equipment manufacturers, service providers and regulatory authorities.
- Monitor vessel performance, fuel consumption and machinery efficiency.
- Support the implementation of energy-efficiency and emissions-reduction initiatives.
- Conduct vessel inspections, audits and technical reviews when required.
- Ensure adequate availability of critical spare parts and technical supplies.
- Investigate machinery incidents and implement preventive and corrective measures.
- Participate in emergency-response and incident-management activities.
- Support the recruitment, development and performance management of shore-based and seagoing technical personnel.
- Prepare technical reports and provide recommendations to senior management.
Requirements
- Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Marine Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency is strongly preferred.
- Previous sailing experience as a Chief Engineer would be advantageous.
- Proven shore-based experience as a Technical Manager or Senior Technical Superintendent.
- Strong experience managing dual-fuel vessels and associated engine systems.
- Sound understanding of LNG, LPG, methanol or other alternative-fuel systems, depending on fleet requirements.
- Experience with dry-docking, major repairs, budgeting and planned maintenance systems.
- Good knowledge of ISM, class requirements, flag-state regulations and international maritime standards.
- Strong leadership, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to manage technical budgets and control costs.
- Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Proficient in vessel-management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to travel and attend vessels when operationally required.
