Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to the Head of Technical (HoT) and lead incident, accident, technical breakdown, and near-miss investigations across the fleet.

  • Manage investigations as end-to-end projects, ensuring timely completion, accurate reporting, and regulatory compliance.

  • Conduct onboard and shore-based investigations, including evidence collection, structured interviews, and documentation review.

  • Apply recognised root-cause analysis methodologies to identify systemic, technical, and human-factor issues.

  • Issue preliminary and final investigation reports to support operational, commercial, and vetting requirements.

  • Recommend and track corrective and preventive actions, ensuring effective implementation and reporting to senior management.

  • Monitor incident trends, repetitive defects, and weak signals to proactively reduce risk and prevent recurrence.

  • Drive fleetwide technical and safety improvements through collaboration with Technical, Marine, Vetting, HSEQC, Crewing, Procurement, and Projects teams.

  • Embed lessons learned into company procedures, training programs, and competency frameworks in partnership with Learning & Development.

  • Support audits, inspections, safety campaigns, and continuous improvement initiatives, promoting a strong learning and accountability culture.

  • Serve as the key liaison with internal and external stakeholders, including Oil Majors, Class, Flag, and P&I, on investigation and technical excellence matters.

    Qualifications & Requirements

  • Class 1 COC (Chief Engineer).
  • Minimum:
  • 1 year sailing as Chief Engineer on tankers OR
  • 2 years as Second Engineer on tankers.
  • 1+ year experience as Ship Manager or similar role OR 3+ years in a tanker company in a comparable profile.
  • Able to travel at short notice; comfortable with 24/7 on-call responsibilities.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Strong time management, independent, outcome-driven, and well-organized.
  • Effective team player with strong cross-functional coordination skills.
