Job Description

Reports to: General Manager

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management and smooth execution of ship operations.
  • Must possess relevant qualifications and adequate experience in navigation to uphold onboard standards and is empowered to implement necessary safety measures in coordination with the vessel’s Master.
  • Oversee and ensure the effective functioning and continuous improvement of the Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Ensure all Marine Safety Superintendents are well-versed in ISM system principles and application.
  • Supervise and support the operational responsibilities of Marine Superintendents/Executives, particularly in preparation for Oil Major inspections.
  • Keep the General Manager informed of any unusual vessel operations or critical issues.
  • Provide timely updates to vessel owners and/or charterers regarding any deviations from normal operations or factors affecting charter performance.
  • Monitor daily communications with vessels to evaluate and coordinate overall operational needs.
  • Manage and allocate crew resources based on vessel and operational requirements.
  • Handle inquiries and communications from owners/principals professionally and efficiently.
  • Review vessel monthly disbursement accounts and oversee related operational expenditures.
  • Authorize and approve operational billing and related invoices.
  • Organize and lead bi-monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Develop and circulate agendas for Management Review Meetings.
  • Schedule and coordinate inspections required by Oil Majors.
  • Ensure that potential operational risks are identified and proper control measures are enforced onboard.
  • Lead accident investigations promptly, analyze root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future risks.
  • Responsible for planning and managing the company’s internal audit process.
  • Ensure all vessels are equipped with updated, certified, and compliant safety gear.
  • Maintain up-to-date legal compliance for all vessels in accordance with maritime regulations.
  • Ensure set operational goals, targets, and improvement programs are met effectively.
  • Oversee administrative functions related to marine operations and documentation.
  • Liaise with clients and principals whenever necessary to ensure smooth collaboration and service delivery.
  • Evaluate inspection reports submitted by Superintendents and ensure follow-up actions are implemented.
  • Review vessel budgets and financial performance with owners/principals periodically.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents and department heads to prepare and finalize budget proposals.
  • Ensure KPIs agreed during the last Management Review are tracked and achieved.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a ship captain on oil tankers or LPG vessels, along with at least 5 years of shore-based experience in the capacity of a marine superintendent or equivalent role, including a proven record of leading SIRE or CDI inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of international and domestic maritime laws, conventions, and industry regulations including ISM, ISPS Code, SOLAS, MARPOL 73/78, IGC Code, IBC Code, ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, and TMSA, as well as marine operation practices.
  • Excellent organizational and coordination abilities.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
