Job Description

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of a tanker fleet, ensuring safe, efficient, and commercially optimal cargo movement.
  • Manage operational performance of vessels from fixture to cargo delivery.
  • Plan and coordinate voyages, including port calls, bunkering, and cargo operations.
  • Monitor vessel position, speed, and fuel consumption to optimize performance and reduce costs.
  • Issue voyage orders and instructions to Masters in line with charter party terms.
  • Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (MARPOL, SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, MLC) and flag/port state requirements.
  • Support and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) and promote strong HSE culture.
  • Oversee off-hire management and ensure timely resolution of vessel deficiencies.
  • Coordinate with technical teams to ensure vessel readiness and operational efficiency.
  • Manage operational budgets, monitor expenses, and identify cost-efficiency opportunities.
  • Support financial planning and reporting; maintain awareness of voyage economics and demurrage.
  • Act as primary point of contact for Masters, agents, terminals, surveyors, and charterers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with charterers, cargo stakeholders, and port authorities.
  • Coordinate with internal departments including operations, procurement, finance, HR, and safety.
  • Lead and manage operations team, including scheduling, performance management, and capacity planning.
  • Ensure team compliance with safety and operational policies.
  • Report to senior operations or vessel management leadership and supervise operations staff.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of experience in tanker operations, with at least 3 years in a shore-based role.
  • Seagoing experience as a deck officer on tankers (Chief Officer or Master preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of crude, clean petroleum product (CPP), or chemical tanker operations.
  • Sound understanding of MARPOL Annex I/II, SOLAS, ISM Code, CDI/OCIMF/SIRE inspections, and charter party terms.
  • Familiarity with ECDIS, VMS, and fleet management systems (e.g., AMOS, DNV Nauticus or similar).
  • Strong decision-making ability with capacity to work under pressure and manage multiple vessels.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial awareness, including voyage economics and demurrage.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to influence and manage shipboard teams remotely.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, or related field (or equivalent sea service).
  • STCW certification (OOW or Master Mariner CoC preferred).
  • Relevant shore-based operations or post-fixture experience.
