Job Description

Operations:
  • Monitor the schedules/itineraries of assigned vessels, and prepare for necessary events such as loading, bunkering, discharging, and dry-docking. Liaise and negotiate with Charterers, Ship Technical Managers, and other relevant parties.
  • Collect Time Charter Hire Revenue, including negotiating against claims/disputes raised by Charterers, and handle settlements of accounts payable/receivable.
  • Manage and approve yearly, quarterly, monthly, and daily budgets of assigned vessels prepared by Ship Technical Managers. Monitor vessel activity and financial results, and implement plans for rectification/improvement as necessary.
  • Ensure that Voyage Orders or requests from Charterers comply with Time Charter Parties and are acceptable from the Owners’ perspective, including negotiating with Charterers.
  • Liaise with underwriters for Japanese Hull & Machinery and/or Protection and Indemnity insurance in the event of material accidents. Arrange additional premiums, report incidents to Charterers and other concerned parties, develop plans for incident management, handle legal proceedings, settle/collect insurance premiums, and prepare for press conferences if necessary.
  • Visit vessels to inspect their condition and maintenance status for commercial purposes.
  • Report punctually to HQ in Tokyo and/or partners in Joint-Venture vehicles.
  • Handle any other ad-hoc tasks, such as preparing for compliance with new maritime regulations and renewing annual fleet insurance.

Business Development:

  • Develop new business with potential customers and expand relationships with existing ones through global marketing for building/owning vessels or other investment projects.
  • Calculate overall budgets for new projects/schemes (new build vessels, second-hand vessels, or other structured business), analyze/evaluate them, and manage the progress of existing projects.
  • Analyze the shipping market and plan investments/sales of vessels.
  • Negotiate and discuss the extension of existing Time Charter contracts with Charterers.
  • Conclude relevant contracts, such as Ship Building Contracts, Time Charter Parties, Ship Sales Agreements (Memorandum of Agreement), Bareboat Charter Parties, and Ship Management Agreements (Agency Agreements).
  • Manage Entities’ profit and loss, balance sheets, and cash flows as established.
  • Handle any other ad-hoc tasks as needed.
  • Educate and manage colleagues in all the above areas as a Team Leader.
  • Handle public relations for the company.

Requirements:

  • Experience with either:
    • Time Charter Party / Voyage Charter Party / Bill of Lading
    • Memorandum of Agreement (Sales and Purchase of Vessel)
    • Shipman / Agency Agreement
  • Experience in Freighting / Chartering Vessels for dry or liquid cargoes.
  • Business Level in writing and speaking.
  • Strong leadership, communication, teamwork, and perseverance.
  • Experience in a Ship Owning Company is a plus.
