Job Description

  • Make certain that vessels function according to ISM/ISPS Codes, MARPOL, SOLAS, SIRE/CDI evaluations, along with regulations from flag state, port state, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Help ships uphold safe operational standards, plan voyages, and meet the requirements of terminals, operators, charterers, and oil companies.
  • Oversee and monitor voyage directives, tank sanitation, cargo handling, and risk management efforts. Ensure that the implementation of cargo and ballast management plans is performed safely and complies with regulations.
  • Offer assistance and direction to the Master during vetting inspections and external evaluations such as SIRE, CDI, FSI, and PSC.
  • Draft preliminary reports for internal and external reviews, audits, and vetting procedures, and manage the implementation of required corrective measures.
  • Arrange and perform both planned and unplanned marine visits, navigation audits, safety evaluations, and behavioral assessments.
  • Oversee the inquiry of incidents, close calls, and deviations, guaranteeing swift documentation and the implementation of preventive and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical and maritime expertise during dry-docking, repairs, retrofits, and comparable projects.
  • Establish and uphold efficient communication pathways with Charterers, Classification Societies, Flag Administrations, and other external parties.

Prerequisites:

  • Holding a valid Class 1 (Master) Certificate of Competency.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Marine Superintendent, ideally with experience in oil/chemical tanker operations within ship management or shipping firms.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as Captain on oil/chemical tankers (preferred).
  • Knowledgeable about the SIRE Vetting procedure.
  • Thorough knowledge of global maritime laws, regulations, and standards such as ISM, ISPS, MLC, TMSA, and requirements from oil companies.
  • Proven experience in performing navigational audits, leading officer briefings, overseeing inspections, implementing safety programs, and assisting with incident inquiries.
  • Superior proficiency in both w ritten and spoken English accompanied by strong communication abilities.
  • Robust analytical skills, outcome-oriented, possessing demonstrable leadership and interpersonal abilities.
  • Self-driven, resourceful, and able to work independently while managing pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Willing and able to travel on short notice as required by operational demands.
