Job Description

  • Lead and oversee all Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ) functions across the company’s fleet and shore-based operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable maritime regulations, statutory requirements, international conventions, and industry standards relating to HSSEQ.
  • Monitor changes in maritime legislation and ensure company policies, procedures, and operational practices remain updated and compliant.
  • Oversee fleet operational readiness to ensure vessels remain cargo-worthy and operationally prepared at all times.
  • Ensure cargo holds, cargo handling equipment, and critical spare parts are properly maintained and available onboard.
  • Act as the company’s Designated Person Ashore (DPA) in accordance with the ISM Code.
  • Manage, maintain, and continuously improve the company’s Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Conduct internal audits, inspections, and reviews to ensure effective implementation of the SMS.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to address audit findings, deficiencies, and non-conformities.
  • Serve as the key liaison between vessel personnel and shore management on safety and compliance matters.
  • Undertake the role of Company Security Officer (CSO) and ensure compliance with the ISPS Code.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Ship Security Plans (SSP) for the fleet.
  • Coordinate vessel security assessments, drills, exercises, and security-related training programmes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s integrated HSSEQ management system, policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Monitor HSSEQ performance, incident trends, audit findings, and operational feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen operational safety, compliance, environmental performance, and quality standards.
  • Promote and foster a proactive HSSEQ culture throughout the organisation.
  • Encourage incident reporting, continuous learning, accountability, and employee participation in HSSEQ initiatives.
  • Conduct HSSEQ training, awareness programmes, toolbox talks, and safety briefings for shore-based and vessel personnel.
  • Coordinate regular vessel visits by shore staff to review HSSEQ-related matters onboard.
  • Ensure findings, observations, and lessons learned from vessel visits are communicated across the fleet and relevant departments.
  • Analyse vessel visit reports and operational feedback to support continuous operational improvement.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response and crisis management procedures for various operational scenarios.
  • Coordinate and conduct emergency drills, simulations, and preparedness exercises to strengthen organisational readiness.
  • Provide guidance and support during emergencies and incident response situations.
  • Oversee the company’s environmental management programme and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability requirements.
  • Implement initiatives to minimise environmental impact and promote environmentally responsible operations.
  • Manage the company’s quality management system and ensure compliance with relevant quality standards, certifications, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor quality performance, audit findings, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for enhancement.
  • Conduct risk assessments relating to safety, security, environmental protection, and quality management.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimise operational and compliance risks.
  • Collaborate with vessel teams and internal departments to ensure proactive and effective risk management practices.
  • Communicate HSSEQ policies, procedures, updates, and best practices across all levels of the organisation.
  • Ensure employees and vessel personnel remain adequately trained and informed on all HSSEQ-related requirements and protocols.
  • Support competency development initiatives to strengthen operational performance, compliance awareness, and HSSEQ excellence throughout the organisation.
