Job Description
An established international maritime organisation is seeking a qualified lawyer to manage a varied portfolio of maritime claims and legal matters.
The successful candidate will provide practical legal advice, oversee external counsel involved in complex disputes and litigation, and collaborate with experienced colleagues in Singapore and other international offices.
The position also involves building relationships with clients, brokers and industry stakeholders, as well as delivering presentations and workshops. You should be confident working independently while contributing effectively within a close-knit international team.
Occasional travel within Southeast Asia will be required to support client engagement and business development activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a busy portfolio of maritime claims and legal matters.
- Provide timely and commercially practical advice on P&I and FD&D matters.
- Appoint and oversee external counsel handling complex claims, disputes and litigation.
- Provide legal support to colleagues across other claims functions.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, brokers and key stakeholders.
- Deliver presentations, seminars and workshops to clients.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Singapore and other international offices.
- Support marketing, client engagement and business development activities across Southeast Asia.
- Travel regionally when required.
Requirements
- Qualified to practise law in an English or common-law jurisdiction, such as Singapore, Hong Kong or Australia, or another comparable jurisdiction.
- At least four to five years of post-qualification experience.
- Experience gained within a recognised maritime law firm, P&I club, trading house or similar organisation.
- Relevant experience handling P&I and/or FD&D matters.
- Strong technical legal knowledge and commercial awareness.
- Ability to manage cases and provide advice with a high degree of autonomy.
- Strong relationship-building, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work within an international team.
